My Christmas 2018 Card Designs

Below are 5 designs I've painted for Christmas cards this year. They are all oil on canvas sheet. Each design is on a small scale of 15cm x 20cm approx. My inspiration was local wildlife and local country landscapes. These have all been printed in to greeting cards measuring 4 x 6 inches and come with a plain white envelope and a cellophane cover sleeve for protection. They are for sale on my folksy shop (link to shop is at the top, on the right side of this blog page)

Reflection- Virginia Woolf

Title: Reflection-Virginia Woolf
Medium: Oils On Canvas
Size: 16 X 20 Inches

Description: This is a double portrait of the talented and pioneering English writer Virginia Woolf  (25 January 1982- 28 March 1941) Also a member of the Bloomsbury group and younger sister of Vanessa Bell.
It's been painted in blue to reflect the troubles she had with the bouts of mental illness she endured throughout her life. These days its diagnosed as bipolar disorder but unfortunately there was never a fitting and effective intervention in her life time. In 1941 she sadly wasn't able to carry on any longer and drowned herself in a river at the age of 59.
I've painted her as a young teenager on the left looking into her future and seeing what is yet to come and the much older version on the right reflecting back on her past and seeing what has past her by.

Lord Bath as the Mad Hatter

Title: Any one for tea?
Medium: Oils on canvas
Size: 50 x 40 cm

Below is a portrait I did of Alexander George Thynn, 7th Marquess of Bath as the Mad Hatter. I was inspired after reading a book on his works of art and I felt the Mad Hatter image suited his eccentric character very well. I have gifted the portrait to Lord Bath and he wrote a thank you note back to me which I have included below.

Vanessa Bell

  • Vanessa Bell
  • Type: Painting
  • Medium: Oils on Canvas
  • Unframed Dimensions (cms): h: 50 w: 40 d: 2
  • Description:
Vanessa Bell ( 30 May 1879-  7 April 1961) was a vital component in the Bloomsbury group. She was an English painter and interior designer. Sister of Virginia Woolf. The friendships within the group and the type of art they were creating for that time have fascinated me since I first came to discover Bloomsbury after I saw an  exhibition of their interior work at Victoria Art Gallery in Bath in 2016. Vanessa in particular has captivated me with her carefree way of thinking and being and I feel a connection and great admiration for her as an artist and a woman. This is a portrait of her to reflect her strong character which still lives on through her work and the impression she has left on all of us who are enchanted by Bloomsbury.
