Portrait of Graham

Portraiture isn't my strongest subject in art but I'm practising and I chose to do a portrait of a dear friend of mine, 93 year old Graham. It came out not too bad considering I've not really ever worked in pastels and pastel pencils before.

Medium: Pastels and Pastel pencils on black paper
Size: 21cm x 30cm

The Little Painting Challenge-Win

I've got great news my postcard was chosen as one the 1000 winning entries to be exhibited at the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester!! I am thrilled !! Still can't believe it.The exhibition is open for public viewing from 1st -22nd May 2015. I entered 4 postcards in 'The Little Painting Challenge' set up by the BBC. You can see all 4 images in my last post here and this one below called 'Bee-ing Isolated' is the winning entry. I feel like I've finally achieved a little something in the art world.

BB War

Title: BB War

Medium: Oils on canvas board

Size: 12 x 30.5 inches approx

Subject/ Image: A play on words piece based around the nature of BB guns. My love for translating phrases in to literal meanings played a large part in formulating what I wanted to achieve. In this case the literal aspect of a BB gun was replaced by actual bee's who themselves became the focal point of the war on the canvas. The idea of bumble bees having their own certified weapons to attack in combat was an amusing one. The BB guns have been painted to become extensions of their limbs and are being used in a war they are having in a field of flowers.
